EDUCATION NEWS

  • KU doctoral student Ryan Lemasters argues that a new approach to religious literacy—addressing conversion+ multiple religious belonging+ motivation—can help people better understand diverse faiths. GOVERNMENT NEWS

  • Judge Sally Pokorny retired Friday at the historic Douglas County Courthouse after nearly 50 years in law and was honored for creating the Behavioral Health Court that aids those with mental illness. The specialized court will continue under Judge Stacey L. Donovan (appointed as her successor).  The Lawrence Times
  • City contractors are repairing Wakarusa Drive starting April 1, reducing lanes until early May. The work also includes closing the 21st+Stewart Ave intersection from April 14 and extending 9th, East Glenn, and eastbound 19th Street closures into mid-May, pending weather delays.  City of Lawrence

HEALTH NEWS

  • Public Health After Dark will examine why racial inequities affect birth outcomes in Douglas County on Thursday, Apr. 16 at 200 Maine St from 6 to 7:30 p.m. The free event, co-hosted by local health agencies+invites community dialogue on data and lived experiences that shape healthier pregnancies.  The Lawrence Times

  • Miley, a 5-year-old Labrador and Pyrenees mix from Eudora, arrived two weeks ago and is ready to serve as a KU tour guide while awaiting adoption at Lawrence Humane.
