EDUCATION NEWS
- ➤ The University of Kansas named Alexa Magstadt its 80th Barry M. Goldwater Scholar on April 9, recognizing the junior from Shawnee who is majoring in molecular, cellular & developmental biology and minoring in Spanish. She said the award will help her focus on advancing her research in cancer biology as she prepares for a future in medicine and science. University of Kansas
- ➤ Student researchers at Haskell and KU are set to present their bioscience research today at the 25th annual symposium at Stidham Union from 4 to 5:30 p.m.—the event comes after federal grants for four of five OASiS programs were cancelled, affecting about 30 participants and leaving program futures uncertain. Faculty and students are facing challenges in completing the semester while showcasing work that has advanced their academic and career goals. The Lawrence Times
- ➤ The University of Kansas School of Business will honor Diane Yetter with its 2025 Distinguished Alumni Award today during a private reception—Yetter is recognized for her leadership in sales and use tax as president of YETTER Tax and founder of The Sales Tax Institute. University of Kansas
- ➤ Staff at Hilltop Child Development Center in Lawrence left a child alone in a locked van on a field trip last Friday and later found the child upset but unharmed—field trips are now on hold while the center reviews its procedures. The child's parents were notified immediately and state agencies received a report. KSNT 27
- ➤ All University of Kansas campuses were named top Military Friendly Schools in the annual survey that reviewed how colleges serve military-affiliated students. KU Lawrence, KU School of Medicine-Wichita and other campuses earned high rankings and Gold designations based on public data and survey responses—showing strong support for veterans, service members and their families. - ➤ A juvenile red-tailed hawk found in Baldwin City is on his way to recovery after being rescued by the Lawrence Humane Society and Operation Wildlife during the week of March 31 — it lost about 50% of his weight and is being tube fed until he can eat solid foods next week. KCTV
