CULTURE NEWS
- ➤ University Theatre at KU will present 'Pippin'—a musical by Stephen Schwartz—at Crafton-Preyer Theatre from April 11 to April 19; the show will feature vibrant dance numbers and a celebrated score with direction by James Dick and choreography by Maya Tillman-Rayton. University of Kansas
- ➤ Award-winning children's author Andrea Wang will visit Lawrence on April 17 for LitFest hosted by the University of Kansas Center for East Asian Studies and School of Education and Human Sciences. She will lead a pre-service workshop at 10:30 a.m. and give a public talk at 6 p.m.—sharing insights from her acclaimed book Watercress. University of Kansas
- ➤ Melissa Garrett, a Haskell alum and member of the Cherokee Nation, is building Wadulisi’s Indigenous Foods to preserve Native traditions by hosting cooking classes and free school presentations while teaching modern twists on classic recipes (like black bean brownies and grape dumplings) at the Kansas City Museum and Outsider Folk School. ECONOMY NEWS
- ➤ KU launched The Care Board on April 7th — a new site that gathers data on how unpaid care work fuels the economy. The project uses government surveys to show experts the value of jobs like cooking, cleaning and caregiving. University of Kansas
EDUCATION NEWS
- ➤ During spring break, a team from KU’s Department of Speech-Language-Hearing spent nine days in Dominica giving free hearing tests, speech evaluations, and caregiver training at clinics, schools, and homes—helping about 80 locals receive needed care. Professors Krysta Green and Kate DeJarnette led seven KU students and will plan a similar trip in May for communities in Bulgaria and Greece. University of Kansas

- ➤ The City of Lawrence announced today that it will not accept new crossing guard requests for the 2025—26 school year as working group members finish evaluating 2024—25 requests, and it will instead focus on staffing pilot sites that experienced weather and hiring challenges. The Lawrence Times
