EDUCATION NEWS

  • The Lawrence school board will review a budget update today that shows the district may lose state and federal aid, including a possible return of $144,644 spent on security equipment as enrollment drops. The board will also discuss changes to professional development, technology contracts, and vehicle acquisitions at the 6 p.m. meeting at 110 McDonald Drive—public input is welcome.  The Lawrence Times

ENVIRONMENT NEWS

  • Today, a wave of pink, red and white redbud blossoms sweeps south to north across Kansas—bringing edible flowers and early green pods for all to enjoy.  The Lawrence Times

GOVERNMENT NEWS

  • Postal workers in the metro area protested on Sunday to fight a plan to make USPS private and risk cutting jobs and raising prices. Lawrence letter carrier Andy Tuttle said the change would lower pay and shrink service to rural areas—threatening local communities.  KMBC

SPORTS NEWS

  • The K-State women’s basketball team reached the Sweet 16 for the first time since 2002—after beating Kentucky 80-79 in overtime on Sunday. They will face either No. 1 USC or No. 9 Mississippi State at 9 p.m. today for a chance to advance to the Elite Eight.  KCTV
