- ➤ Lawrence NAACP will install 30 granite headstones and launch a digital archive to honor over 30 local Black residents buried in unmarked graves at Oak Hill Cemetery (including three lynching victims). The work will finish in coming weeks and the memorial dedication is set for June 10. The Lawrence Times
EDUCATION NEWS
- ➤ Gov Laura Kelly signed a bipartisan law that bans student cell phones in classrooms starting this fall — requiring public and accredited private schools to store phones securely until dismissal while letting districts set enforcement guidelines. The Lawrence Times
- ➤ The Lawrence Public Schools board will consider a $1.73M bid to replace tracks at Lawrence and Free State high schools on Monday, March 23 at 6 p.m. Summer construction (to protect new surfaces) will restrict access, with an Architectural Vision Team bid also on the consent agenda. - ➤ Twenty cadets graduated on Mar. 20 from the Kansas Law Enforcement Training Center after 14 weeks of training — they will now serve their communities as law enforcement officers. University of Kansas
