EDUCATION NEWS
- ➤ A $100,000 donation from a KU professor emeritus created the Bob and Lois Hanzlik Scholarship Fund at Peaslee Tech to support Douglas County residents in pursuing high-skilled careers — delivered through the Douglas County Community Foundation — and will help fill a gap in technical training. Peaslee Tech CEO Kevin Kelley said the fund offers a valuable alternative to college for those seeking skilled jobs — reinforcing local workforce efforts — as the program begins serving students. - ➤ Kansas Education Commissioner Randy Watson urged school districts to cancel breaks or add days to make up for roughly eight lost days from winter weather, and he proposed half-day summer school for (K-3) students who need extra help in reading and math.
