EDUCATION NEWS
- ➤ Four candidates for the next dean of the KU School of Business will visit campus in Room 1020 at Capitol Federal Hall to share their vision on March 27, April 3, April 8 and April 10—candidate names will be announced about two business days before each visit and the community is invited to provide feedback during the sessions. Recordings and online feedback forms will remain available throughout the process. University of Kansas
GOVERNMENT NEWS
- ➤ The Kansas Geological Survey has received a $15 million grant from the Army to add artificial intelligence to its seismic imaging system to detect underground hazards like abandoned mines and sinkholes in Kansas. The project will soon use advanced techniques to speed up data analysis and protect public safety — helping local infrastructure and communities prepare for potential risks. University of Kansas
- ➤ The University of Kansas is under a federal investigation for joining a graduate business program partnership that may limit enrollment to people of color, which the Department of Education says could violate Title VI of the Civil Rights Act + a Feb 14 letter gave all federally funded schools 14 days to end all race-based practices. The university is now reviewing its policies as the inquiry moves forward. The Lawrence Times
- ➤ Kristi Northcutt has been named director of the KU Public Management Center and will begin her role on May 12th—she brings extensive experience from her tenure as city administrator in Lindsborg where she led major projects and improvements. Her leadership will guide the center in its mission to build public service leaders in our region. University of Kansas
- ➤ City contractors will adjust traffic beginning Monday, March 17 on Iowa St. for the next phase of construction that will reduce lanes each way until fall and will start the Jayhawk Watershed project on March 24 that narrows southbound Tennessee St. lanes—further work will extend toward 9th St. and eastbound 6th St. during later stages. City officials also announced that 14th St. will close between Tuesday, March 18 and March 28 for sewer repairs while southbound Naismith Dr. and a westbound lane on 6th St. will be closed from March 20 to March 21 for tree removal and Evergy pole replacement—drivers are urged to seek alternate routes. HEALTH NEWS
- ➤ Kansas health officials issued an air quality advisory on March 14 as strong winds carried dust and smoke from wildfires in Oklahoma and eastern Kansas — the air quality index fluctuated from unhealthy to possibly hazardous. Officials advised people to limit outdoor exercise, remain indoors when possible, and run air conditioners with filters to keep indoor air clean. FOX 4
