COMMUNITY NEWS

  • Falkner, an 11-month-old shepherd mix from Eudora, arrived at the Lawrence Humane Society and enjoys daily playgroups with other dogs. He is available for adoption (fee $150) at 1805 E. 19th St. from noon to 6 p.m.  The Lawrence Times

CULTURE NEWS

  • Artist Tokeya Waci U Richardson invites Lawrence residents to join him in painting an 18-by-10-foot mural on the west wall of the Vermont Street garage next to the public library. The sessions will begin mid-March or early April and finish before summer.  The Lawrence Times
  • Local songwriters shared tips and music at the Lawrence Public Library in the first 780 Songwriters Circle on Wednesday evening with about 50 people watching and asking questions. The library + Kansas Public Radio + Lawrence Music Alliance hosted the event set to run quarterly.  The Lawrence Times

EDUCATION NEWS

  • A National Debate Tournament committee selected KU’s debate team with Brooklyn Hato and AJ Persinger for Houston from March 26 to 31. The team finished the season ranked 16th nationally and is one of the top six third teams, KU debate director Scott Harris said.  The Lawrence Times

GOVERNMENT NEWS

  • Douglas County commissioners extended a one-year permit on Wednesday for a planned 159-megawatt solar farm north of Lawrence while a court injunction blocks construction, and Evergy with Savion LLC will lead the stalled project pending regulatory approval — litigation continues.  The Lawrence Times
