Here's your local news at a glance for Tuesday, the 10th of March.
Good morning, Lawrence.
Lawrence is holding an extreme heat workshop today to help local businesses and organizations prepare for more international visitors during the summer heat as Kansas City readies for the World Cup — the session outlines essential steps to handle increased customer flow.
Superintendent Jeanice Swift said Lawrence Public Schools will open a welcome center at 110 McDonald Drive, expand the Jayhawk Blueprint program and add an AP Capstone; streamlined staff positions for competitive pay, increased CTE funding and more preschool spots will be addressed at the board meeting Monday, March 23.
The Lawrence school district delayed its response to a records request on its switch from Gaggle to Managed Methods, invoicing $13K then later stating it would need two weeks and a fee of $1,500 to provide additional records — the delay does not meet KORA timelines for public access.
After weekend storms damaged homes in affected parts of the metro area, the Kansas Attorney General warned residents to avoid unregistered roofing contractors.
Homeowners are urged to verify licenses — checking for valid registration and obtaining multiple estimates before any work begins.
Kenneth Walker III (Super Bowl LX MVP) will join the Kansas City Chiefs next season after he rushed for 1,027 yards in 17 games with the Seattle Seahawks in 2025.
The move is expected to boost the team’s offense in upcoming games.
