- ➤ A KU professor refined his study of the Crab Pulsar's zebra stripes by showing that gravity's lensing effects + plasma interference create the distinctive pattern. He will present his updated findings at the American Physical Society summit in Denver from March 15–20. University of Kansas
- ➤ Registration for KU Engineering summer camp is now open at the University of Kansas, with two camps lasting one week planned in July for ninth and 10th graders from July 12 to 17 and for 11th and 12th graders from July 19 to 24 + the program offers hands-on activities that introduce students to engineering life on campus and in the wider Lawrence community. - ➤ KMBC 9 meteorologists have prepared safety updates as severe weather with rain and storms is forecast today, with additional alerts planned for Wednesday and Friday — residents should review their emergency plans and be ready for statewide tornado drills on Wednesday. KMBC
GOVERNMENT NEWS
- ➤ KU Lawrence campus will hold a tornado drill at 10 a.m. tomorrow as part of Severe Weather Awareness Week, while the KU Medical Center campus will follow at 11 a.m. — the drill will test warning sirens and notification systems to help people locate safe shelter. University of Kansas
- ➤ Douglas County Emergency Management will host a workshop at the Fairgrounds’ Flory Meeting Hall (2120 Harper St) from 9 a.m. to noon Monday, March 9 for local businesses, media, and event organizers to plan for extreme heat during World Cup events.
