COMMUNITY NEWS

  • Lawrence Public Library's community survey to shape its new master plan is open until this weekend (707 Vermont St.). Community members can spend 10 minutes sharing ideas to help improve library services and enter to win a $50 downtown gift card.  The Lawrence Times

CULTURE NEWS

  • KU's Global Awareness Program hosted its first Mahjong Night at Watson Library and drew close to 40 students + built connections between domestic and international peers through cultural gameplay. Organizers said more events will be scheduled this semester.  The Lawrence Times
  • The KU Memorial Unions team will celebrate 100 years of the Kansas Union with events from March through October. The schedule features a glow-in-the-dark mini golf night on March 1, brunch on March 23, casino night on April 25, and a Baby Jay celebration on Oct. 6 — inviting members.  University of Kansas

EDUCATION NEWS

  • KU Libraries’ Snyder Book Collecting Contest is open for student entries through March 24, and KU alumna and Library of Congress rare books chief Stephanie Stillo will return on April 16 as keynote speaker and judge at Watson Library (finalists’ collections will be showcased at a reception).  University of Kansas
  • Two KU Debate teams clinched the Mid America Championship Tournament at Southern Nazarene University (Feb. 20–22), sweeping the top three speaker awards; they also earned a top-10 finish in British Parliamentary debates at an online tournament hosted by the University of Alaska.  University of Kansas
  • Registration is open for the Fourth Annual FBI and KU Cybersecurity Intelligence Conference on March 31 and April 1 at the new KU Conference Center in Lawrence — media may apply for credentials by March 25 while attendees hear keynotes from FBI assistant director Brett Leatherman and cybersecurity experts.  University of Kansas

ENVIRONMENT NEWS

  • Lawrence received a $200,000 grant from KDHE to support its joint climate action plan with Douglas County from 2024, which will update the city’s greenhouse gas inventory and energy plans for facilities (to help lower emissions).  The Lawrence Times

SPORTS NEWS

  • Lawrence is preparing to welcome Algeria’s national soccer team ahead of the World Cup as local officials plan community events to celebrate the team’s visit. The celebrations will boost local spirit and bring residents together during the tournament buildup.  KCTV
