  • Lawrence city commissioners will review a report today at City Hall at 5:45 p.m. on the Farmers Market’s search for a permanent location as the project team recommends South Park. Community members may submit written+live comments until noon.  The Lawrence Times

BUSINESS NEWS

  • On Monday, Feb. 9, KU professor Elizabeth Embry explained how trauma affects entrepreneurs and offered a trauma-informed framework to support their business efforts. The study covers common responses like fight, flight, and freeze and outlines strategies to help entrepreneurs regain control over their work.  University of Kansas
  • KU researchers found that job tailoring—adjusting work conditions to suit personality traits—could outperform forcing all workers to return to the office, especially when faced with high communication overload. The Jan. 15 study shows extraverted workers favor in-person work while conscientious employees lean toward working at home.  University of Kansas

EDUCATION NEWS

  • KU's Office of Sovereign Partnerships & Indigenous Initiatives will host the Sovereign Futures Series on AI and Data Sovereignty Across the Southern Plains March 3-4 at KU and online. Tribal leaders, scholars and technologists will meet to discuss how artificial intelligence and data systems affect Indigenous governance.  University of Kansas
  • KU Law Dean Stephen Mazza received the inaugural AALS Award for Excellence in Mentoring Future Legal Education Leaders during the Annual Meeting in New Orleans early in January — the honor recognized his long-standing effort in guiding future law school leaders.  University of Kansas
  • The Lawrence school board approved calendars for 2026–2028 that include Indigenous Peoples Day as a paid holiday for staff and received a report on Native American Student Services on Monday. Board member Carole Cadue-Blackwood (a Kickapoo tribe member) said the decision marks a historic first for Kansas districts.  The Lawrence Times
