CULTURE NEWS

  • Community members gathered Friday to celebrate the new mural 'Intertwined' by Van Go’s young artists at J.Lynn Bridal and Suiting downtown. Art director Rick Wright explained the mural’s symbols (which include themes of unity and acceptance) to about 50 attendees.  The Lawrence Times

EDUCATION NEWS

  • The Thomas A. Gorton Music and Dance Library at Murphy Hall will celebrate 25 years with events Feb. 12-18 that include a brown bag concert, a student party and live performances marking its key role in KU's performing arts studies.  University of Kansas
  • Lawrence Public Schools students will perform at the 10th annual Ovation! talent show tomorrow at 7 p.m. in the Lied Center’s main auditorium. Tickets cost $15 for adults (or $5 for students) and proceeds will fund the Lawrence Schools Foundation.  The Lawrence Times

HEALTH NEWS

  • The University of Kansas Health System is leading planning for an event expected to draw over 600,000 international fans, officials said. The initiative focuses on local safety + service measures and will roll out soon.  KCTV
  • More than 600,000 fans will attend eight World Cup matches in Kansas City over four months, so the University of Kansas Health System is training staff to offer emergency services at Arrowhead Stadium and in Lawrence. Officials will finalize plans when team base camps and translation needs are set.  KCTV

SPORTS NEWS

  • The FIFA World Cup trophy will tour Kansas City on April 18 and 19, offering interactive exhibits + up-close views ahead of the World Cup matches; Algeria will use Lawrence’s Rock Park as a base camp for practice sessions ahead of group play in June.  KMBC
