  • Bert Robinson, a World War II veteran, celebrated his 100th birthday with a bowling party in Lawrence yesterday that marked decades of athletic achievement among local friends.  KCTV

EDUCATION NEWS

  • KU Libraries will unveil two student-curated collections at an opening reception on Feb. 5 in Watson Library’s Haricombe Gallery. The exhibit will display over 35 new additions in print and digital formats + highlight diverse student research.  University of Kansas
  • KU released renderings for Phase 2 of renovations to David Booth Kansas Memorial Stadium, a step that aims to manage limited capacity in 2026 and move the project closer to completion.  KCTV

ENVIRONMENT NEWS

  • Arctic air is set to roll in tonight with single-digit temperatures and wind chills from -5 to -20 expected Friday as light snow begins Friday night; a second surge could hit Saturday evening, leading to plowable snow and hazardous road conditions.  KMBC
  • Today, a winter storm brings dangerous cold and heavy snow to Lawrence as temperatures drop sharply. Residents should brace for icy roads and strong winds through next Monday–preparations are crucial.  KCTV

GOVERNMENT NEWS

  • The City of Lawrence added 13 temporary parking spaces along 9th Street (between Tennessee St. and the road closure) to support local businesses affected by Jayhawk Watershed construction. The spaces were ready by end of day Thursday, Jan. 22 and will be removed when the street reopens.  City of Lawrence
  • Kansas families facing high heating bills are now eligible for state financial help — applications must be submitted by March 31.  KCTV
